INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETION OF “EQUINE AND OX LIABILITY RELEASE, WAIVER OF RIGHT TO SUE AND ASSUMPTION OF ALL RISKS” FORM:

A) Getting the FORM:

The current FORM (Revised 04/14/11) in PDF format is provided on this website. (See the provided link to “Adobe” if you have not yet downloaded the free software to “read” PDF files.) If you print on both sides, it will require two sheets of paper.

Horse show sponsors should be able to provide you with the FORM.

Also, you may request the FORM from Glenarvon, 1853 Glenarvon Drive, Bremo Bluff, VA 23022.

B) Reading and Understanding the FORM:

Please read it carefully, and please refer to applicable Virginia Statutes. Much of the structure of this FORM arises from Virginia requirements.

Do not alter or revise the FORM. It is designed to be employed in multiple equine and ox uses on multiple properties.

It is important that you consult with your own advisors and not rely on anything presented to you by these instructions, this website, by the sponsor of any event, or by any person related to Glenarvon or adjacent properties. Deciding to execute the FORM is an important decision that you should reach independently. However, a fully executed FORM will be required if you wish to participate in equine or ox events here.

Much of the FORM may be familiar to many participants. Necessary adaptations have been made to deal with the Glenarvon situation, and the more public use of the new horse show facility.

Please complete the applicable lines of the FORM fully. The execution pages have been simplified to deal with problems too many people, primarily in the horse show segment, seemed to have. Two frequently recurring issues... (1) people who are not parents or guardians signing as if they had authority, and (2) people having difficulty calculating the 18th birthday of a child... have been addressed. Still, YOU WILL HAVE TO BE ABLE TO DECIDE IF YOU ARE OVER AGE 18. Separate pages for execution by “ADULTS” and for “MINORS” are now provided. Any people who are still confused should NOT SIGN ANYTHING.

C) Your Decision:

If you wish to execute the FORM, please do so using ink, and make a copy for your file if you desire. Send or deliver the signed original to us.

You may revoke your decision at any time by delivering a signed written notice of your decision to W. A. Winston at the above address.

Providing ALL the information required, including the date of birth of a minor, is mandatory. PERMISSION TO PARTICIPATE IS DENIED if the FORM is not fully executed.

D) Annual renewals are NOT required for adults. One release is sufficient:

Until revoked by your action, or the withdrawal of permission by any of the landowners, one executed FORM can remain effective for years. (Deep Run Hunt Club requires annual renewals of their release, in part to deal with the minor-becoming-an-adult issue, but Glenarvon does not follow this pattern in an effort to minimize the number of releases.)

E) Children turning 18:

On a child's 18th birthday, a FORM signed by a parent or legal guardian becomes ineffective and must be replaced by one signed by the new adult. This is why the FORM requires the date of birth of any participant younger than 18.
