Small points and scrapers/knives float up from time to time, but this large axe, found 6/8/00, was a shock. One person thought it to be a “Guilford” point, (4,000 B.C.), but the Egloff & Woodward book, “First People-The Early Indians of Virginia” suggested that the Guilfords were not side-notched, as this one is. Notches appeared earlier in the “Hardaway”, (8,000 B.C.), and later “Halifax”, (3,000 B.C.), points. I have no idea what era this large point belongs to. It weighs nearly 4 pounds. WAW
